I Don't Want to Do This:
Last night my little brother and I met with Mom and took care of paperwork giving us both durable power of attorney over her finances, health care and any other important stuff. It's good to have this stuff taken care of but it seems easier to deal with if you just blow through it and don't stop and really think about what it is you are doing and why you need to. So I am glad I didn't have to do this alone. Glad to be able to share this responsibility with my brother and doubly glad for the dear ladies who came to sit with us as witnesses.
The Lord Provided:
Beth and Kris are long time friends of my mom and have become dear to me over time as well. I know they think there were just there to witness us signing the documents and then sign it themselves, but for me having them there was like having extra pillows cushioning sharp edges and at the same time providing something strong to lean against. Thank you ladies.
Lighter MOMent's
Signing Mom's cast was a lot more fun. She has quite a few signatures and well wishes collecting on that powder blue plaster. Including a note written on tape from my sister, her daughter. Since my sister can't be here to sign it, she wrote out a little note on tape and sent it to Mom. It's losing it's stickiness so Mom had to finally put it on her bedside table. All the other signatures will be lost when this cast is removed I suppose, although someone said that she knew of a lady who saved her cast and turned it into a planter! That sounds about right for my mother. She loves unusual planters.
Ugh signing all that stuff must be difficult! I am one of 4 kids but J is an only child--I seriously dread the day when all of that falls squarely on our shoulders :(
ReplyDeleteHaving people sign my cast was the only good part about having one!
