Staycation

So, my husband left this morning on his annual outdoor adventure. Once or twice a year (usually summer) he takes off with a friend (this time, one of his best buddies from high school) and goes backpacking. They caught the 7:30am ferry out of Anacortes, WA, destination:Vancouver Island. From there they will drive to the trailhead of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, a 47k coastal trail that, as the name suggests, follows the coast. They will be camping on the beach, hiking both beach and wooded trails and not one but several suspension bridges. (only one of the reasons he is doing this with a BFF and not his wife--ahem!)

I wish them the best! Truly, I love to travel with my sweetie and I look forward to our next adventure together but I won't/don't begrudge him his guy time. I read the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldridge. He needs this  and the timing is so perfect since he just celebrated completion of project management on the  restaurant job.
We'll have our own adventure again soon enough.

So... what will I be doing while the man is away?
Friday Harbor, San Juan Island
sleeping in... eating popcorn or cold cereal for dinner... watching chick-flicks...reading books.... a little stay-cation action? yah, it all sounds good.

But there is a bit of wanderlust stirring in me and I wouldn't mind inventing my own adventure! I'm dreaming of hopping on the ferry myself and riding it out to the islands.... if I get off in Friday Harbor, there is no need for a car. I can walk on, walk off and walk around this sweet little town. I can sit outside and soak up the sunshine and let the breeze whip my hair into wild curls. I can take my camera and my notebook and create all sorts of stories. I can get an ice cream cone from the little stand at the Friday Harbor ferry landing. I can sit on the bench on the hill and watch ferries and sailboats come and go.

I could invite a girlfriend to accompany me.
Or not. I could do this solo.
I like my own company.
